Ninjanuity

I made this video while I was in graduate school. I was in the School of Education, but as a doctoral student, I could take classes in any Columbia department, so I took a business school class (with Eli Noam, very good) and the intro class in filmmaking at the film school. There were about 10 students in the class, and they were all much better than me at filmmaking - which stands to reason…

I learned a lot though. Definitely gave me a lot of appreciation for film makers!

The video has a great soundtrack (Herbie Hancock, Minutemen, Tom Waits at the end) and has some very long shots. The students in the class made fun of me a bit for the scene where the male protagonist (my friend Mick) leaves Jenn (my wife…) to get high in the car. Whenever a scene didn’t make total sense during the whole semester, they’d point to me and say, “yah - it really doesn’t make any sense… like the scene that that guy did when the guy leaves the picnic to get high in the car…”. And they’d point at me. Point taken!

The yellow Cadillac convertible belonged to my friend Evan who played the ninja. Enjoy.
